SEPTEMBER 21 IS WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY

WALK AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE:
GWAF & LASCON storm Igando Community.

GWAF has continued to demonstrate ability in synergy and partnership with various players in the field of community health and grass root impact.

This was displayed in the partnership plan work with the Lagos State College of Nursing Community Project held on the 12th October, 2021. The partnership aimed at creating an entry point for public campaign and mass awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease and reduce its related stigma in the society along with medical examination of the locals.

The Walk Against Alzheimer’s Disease is part of our community outreach intervention. The program was implemented as part of activities marking the 1 week Annual Students Nurses week of the Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando.

The manifest objective was to sensitize and create awareness about AD in the immediate community and reach out with our IEC materials as well as serve as an avenue to impress the preventive approach through physical activities and exercise in the mind of the students and staff of the institution.

About 100 students and 5 staff, decked in their sport outfit with the School fitness instructor, Mr. Rauf as the lead, took part in the 2 hours walk of about 6 km distance. The train, in the company of motorized music with DJ and hype man took off from the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando through the Igando-Iyana iba - LASU express way. Dance, fun and laughter filled the air as the group enjoyed themselves with good music and they justified same with good dancing steps to entertain themselves and to the admiration of lookers. Alzheimer’s messages dropped in at interval through the mounted Public Address system and IEC materials were given out to passersby, commuters and shop owners along the path of the train. The train terminated at the Igando open field where about 80 local populace underwent free blood pressure check and sugar level check sponsored by the institution, in addition to messages on Alzheimer’s Disease and healthy living delivered by GWAF at the venue.
